A painting of Jesus Christ titled “Salvator Mundi or Saviour of the world” by Leonardo da Vinci has emerged the highest work of art ever sold at auction with a price of $450.3 million dollars. This work of art by Leonardo da Vinci was sold on Wednesday (15/11/2017) at Christie’s in New York City.

It is actually one out of the fewer 20 work of arts known to have been from the legendary Leonardo da Vinci and it is the only one that is in private hands while the rest are in Museums. Salvator Mundi went through 6 years of paintstaking research for its authenticity before it was finalized as Leonardo’s painting.

Leonardo’s Salvator Mundi took over the title of the most expensive piece of art ever sold at auction from Pablo Picasso’s “Les Femmes d’Alger (Version ‘O’) which was sold in 2015 at $179.3 million also in Christie’s auction hall in New York.
